Review Of O2 XDA Atom By Lijo George

Speaking at its launch in Mumbai recently, 02 Asia Pacific and the Middle East CEO, Mark Billington, stated that the Atom Life is a PDA that will power the user both at work and play. We decided to put this claim to test.

Packed with Features

The 02 XDA Atom Life is a tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 phone with GPRS and EDGE capabilities. The built-in Wi-Fi functionality makes it an excellent device to check e-mail on the go. GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation is not built in, but it's possible to add an external receiver. The Atom Life is 3G capable—the front-mounted VGA camera makes video calling simplistic In-call voice reception is nice and dean.
The Atom Life runs on Windows Mobile 5, so mobile versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel are included. These applications make sure that your work won't suffer no matter where you are. Other pre-installed applications include 02 AutoConfig, 02 Autolnstall, 02 Connect, 02 MediaPlus. 02 SMSPIus, and 02 PhonePlus, which make the phone economically strong. 02 Connect offers access to software updates via a GPRS connection, while 02 MediaPlus allows you to access all your stored music, videos, and photos from a single interface. You can use PocketMSN to access your Hotmail account and chat with your contacts through MSN Messenger. The Internet Explorer makes browsing the web a breeze. There's also a mobile version of Windows Media Player 10. And to round off the package, there is Microsoft ActiveSync to connect the Atom Life to your PC.The Atom Life is powered by an Irte XScale PXA 270 processor running at a mind-blowing 624 MHz. We were impressed by the capabilities of this processor, which was able to multitask and run heavy applications without am hiccups. It features 64 MB RAM and 1GB of internal flash memory. A MiniSD card slot for expanding the memory is located on the top of the phone.

Camera
The 2 megapixel camera takes decent pictures with resolutions ranging from 80x60 to 1600x1200. An LED strobe flash and a self-portrait mirror are also built in.
Shaping the Masterpiece
At first glance, the Atom Life looks like any other 02 model, but look closely and you'll see a few subtle differences. The device's glossy black plastic screen is the in-call speaker grille, which also houses status lights—green for standby, red for charging, and blue to show that Bluetooth is switched on. Volume controls are on the left, and the camera and record buttons are on the right. Keys on the front panel include call accept and reject controls, two soft and media player shortcut keys.
The Atom Life weighs 145 grams which is quite light for a PDA. Its slick form makes it a true style statement.
Chinks in the Shining Armour
02 markets the Atom Life as a PDA that doubles up as a multimedia device. Even though it has SRS-WOW surround speakers, the volume levels could have been higher. The glossy black plastic finish is prone to fingerprints and smudges, and the chrome plating— especially around the stylus holder slot—wears out easily with heavy use. The 2.7-inch LCD screen might look good at first, but it isn't the clearest we have seen. Team this up with terrible viewing angles and you have real disappointment on your hands. The quality of still and video photography is also below average.
Verdict
The 02 Xda Atom Life is a brilliant device, and a great solution for all your business and multimedia needs. There's a chance that you might find it a little confusing to handle initially but once you get the hang of it, organizing your daily schedules and carrying out vital daily tasks will become very convenient. Also, the enhanced multimedia functions make the Atom Life a pleasure to work with. The elegant shape ensures that you are carrying a guaranteed style statement in your pocket. As the maufacturers said—the Xda Atom Life surely does power you at work and play!

AMD Cool 'N' Quiet Guides By fredo

Most of AMD user must have realize the Cool n Quiet feature on their newly purchased AMD processor. However you might not even care about this wonderful technnology developed by AMD. In this guide, I will try to explain it and give you guides to enable this microprocessor feature.

Advantages
- Processor runs much more cooler.
- Low processor power consumptions.
- A lot quieter (low temperature means Smart CPU fan reduces its speed)

Guide to enable the Cool 'N' Quier feature

Checklist
- AMD Sempron/Athlon 64.
- Motherboard which support Cool n quiet.

Softwares
- CpuZ (google for it)
- AMD Sempron/Athlon 64 driver (download from AMD website)

Steps

1. Go into bios screen by pressing DEL during pc start up. Find the option to enable cool n quiet and enable it. Most motherboards have it already activated by default.

2. Install the AMD processor driver and reboot Windows.

3. Go to control panel, go to power options and choose minimal power management and click ok.

4. Start CpuZ and watch for the cpu speed. It should display your current cpu speed. You may try launching a few heavy task program and watch as the cpu speed rising. Congratulations, you have enabled cool n quiet.* In modern linux OS, the support for cool n quiet is included in the kernel. You don't have to do anything as it is already activated by default.

My processor is an AMD X2 Dual Core with 2.1 Ghz frequency. During idle, the cpu speed are 1000Mhz and it may change to 1.8Ghz and 2.1Ghz when maxxed out. The vcore voltage also change with respect to the cpu frequency. The major advantages of turning on this feature is that my cpu temperature drops drastically with the lowest temperature of 24 degree celcius (before cool n quiet it was 40 degree) and the power consumptions was reduced. Let's make the world a better place by reducing our energy consumptions!

Japanese Curry Rice Recipe

Ingredients

One package of Japanese curry sauce mix (cube)
2 potatoes, about 14 oz
2 onions, about 20 oz
2 carrots, about 8 oz
Chicken or beef about 14 oz
6 cups of water (check these proportions on the box you buy as the amount of water varies!)

Instructions
  1. Cut beef into bite sized pieces.
  2. Cut otatoes, carrots and onions into bite-sized pieces too.
  3. Fry vegetables and meat in a bit of oil in a large sauce pan.
  4. When the onion becomes brown, add water.
  5. When the water boils, remove the foam from the surface of the water. By doing this, you can eliminate the bitterness from the vegetables.
  6. When the veggies and meat are cooked, turn the heat off and dissolve the curry roux. Fill your ladle with hot water from the sauce pan and let the curry blocks dissolve in it.
  7. Turn the heat back to medium and cook until the curry thickens a bit.
  8. Serve with steamed rice.

Is Yahoo catching up on Google? By Anja Glauch

Indeed Yahoo! will propose ways to phrase a search as a user types into the query box and will produce more links to photos, music and videos on the main results page.

This new search tool will also pull information from Yahoo's calendar service:Upcoming.org to highlight local events to a search request .

Yahoo!'s idea when deciding to create this new "search assist " tool is partly based on a research showing that online consumers were suffering from "web search fatigue". The study by 'Harris interactive' reported that 99 % of adults online use a search engine to find information online but only 15% of them find what they looking for on their first search. They have to conduct a searche three or four times to find what they are looking for.

The manager of Yahoo! Search said that they make the changes to give the best answers to their consumers. This internet search fatigue damages yahoo's earning and profit and also has a dramatic effect on their market shares too. In August 2007, Yahoo market share represented 23% of U.S Search market compared to 56.5 % for Google. Two years ago, Yahoo market share(32 %) was only 3 points away from Google (35%).

The gap between the two search engines is going to be hard to fill but it is certainly worth trying!
