The 5 Myths About Google Pagerank

The recent Toolbar RageRank update once again has generated a lot of discussion in the SEO community. Webmasters report their websites receiving not much more traffic despite the increased visible PageRank. In numerous forum threads people question the reliability of toolbar values. By unveiling the following five myths I hope to answer to some of the uncertainties caused by this update.

1. PageRank values range from 0 to 10.

While some people believe that PageRank is an integer number or at least converge to an integer after intensive recursive calculations, actually it is a floating point number. Google rounds up the real value to the closest integer and puts it on the 0-10 scale which is displayed in your browser toolbar.

2. PageRank value displayed in the toolbar is the one used to rank the results.

As you might have noticed, the toolbar value is updated every few months with no regular intervals. In the present time Google continuously calculates and updates PageRank so that sometimes actual PageRank and its toolbar values can differ. The toolbar value should be considered not as a current rank but as a level your page has reached by the time of the latest toolbar update.

3. PageRank is the primary factor to rank the search results.

Not exactly. PageRank was the backbone of the Google success as a search engine because of its integrity, ability to use the unique democratic nature of the web and hyperlinks, and relatively high immunity to abuse. But as years passed the Google technology became far more sophisticated. Now Google uses a cloud of factors to rank its search results. Some of them are query specific (keyword saturation of the page copy and the backlinks’anchor text) and some of them are domain specific (domain age, keywords in domain name, and of course PageRank). Nobody outside the Google’s offices knows the actual weight of each factor and it is quite possible that PageRank is no longer the primary one.

4. Google toolbar shows an increase of PageRank for my pages. My traffic is going to skyrocket!

Wrong. There won’t be any sudden traffic increase after toolbar upgrades any more. As I said before, the continuous calculation and update of the Google’s internal PageRank means that the rankings also adjust gradually as your pages get or lose backlinks. So the toolbar upgrade itself will not cause any changes in search results.

5. Toolbar PageRank is of no use, it is just for entertainment.

This is allegedly a quote by one of the Google representatives. This is only partially true. The reason why Google doesn’t show the actual PageRank any more is that there have been repeated attempts by hackers to access an exploit these data. Since 2004 the toolbar values updates are no longer synchronized with the actual rankings changes, and therefore should not to be considered too seriously in terms of SEO. However toolbar ranks still remains the easiest and most obvious way to evaluate the quality of a page and millions of web users regularly judge websites according to what Google toolbar shows them.

It also said that innocent words such as Winnie the Pooh and Tweety yielded search results of which 6.7% were risky sites! To keep your surfing safe, heed this search routine:

5 Tips to Boost Your Adsense Revenue

Google AdSense program has made it easier for webmasters to make money through a website. Webmasters who run an AdSense campaign will display Google's contextual Ads relevant to the content of their sites and thus encouraging visitors to click the ads and earn money for each ad click.

However you will earn very little AdSense revenue if you don't know how to optimize your AdSense ads on your website. Here are some tips to increase your AdSense earning:

1. Focus on one Adsense ad format. The Large Rectangle (336X280) ad format seems to work better than other ad formats because this format tends to result in higher click through rates (CTR). Another reason is that the ads will look like normal web links that visitors use to click on them. It doesn't matter whether the visitors know that they are clicking AdSense ads or not, as long as there are clicking, you earn AdSense commission.

2. Create a custom palette for your ads. Select a color that matches your website's background. If your site's background is white both, the color of ad border and background should set to be white too. Also the color of the ad title should be similar to coloe of the links in your website. This is to make your AdSense ads look like it is part of the web pages. Again, this will boost AdSense CTR.

3. Don't place your AdSense ads at the bottom of your webpages because it is proven to be less effective. Displaying your AdSense ads at the bottom is like hiding your AdSense and thus leads to low CTR and AdSense revenue. Try to put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between AdSense locations can make when you see your earnings.

4. Try to place your AdSense ads near rich content as visitors main focus usually are your content. There are several ways to insert AdSense ads into your content and one of the ways is place your AdSense just after the end of your content.

5. Try to automate the insertion of your AdSense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your AdSense code in a text file, name it as “AdSense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then use SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. There are other ways to optimize your AdSense that produce high CTR also. You can learn more tricks by reading in AdSense and webmaster forums.

How To Bring Large Amounts of Traffic To Your Blog

Have you been blogging, but not too many people are visiting it? Are you waiting for those comments to come flooding in, but all you get is spam comments? I am going to tell you just a few things you can do, to bring in steady traffic to your blog.

Many new bloggers start a blog but get easily discouraged because they have no readers reading it. Well, the readers can't read your blog, if they can't it. They also won't read it, if it's not something they want to read.

My biggest tip I will give here is, give your readers something they want to read. If you write a post that people enjoy reading, they are going to reward you by coming back. Never forget that your readers are real people, make your posts conversational. When you are blogging, remember to keep each post to one topic only and include keyword rich words in your title. Be sure to post to your blog often. Search engines love blogs and if you are posting daily, your blog is going to be indexed by the engines even faster and more frequently.

My next tip, if you are looking for really large amounts of traffic, I would like to suggest optimizing your posts for the search engine. You will want to throw a little SEO into your postings. You can do this easily by doing the following:

1. Use your primary keywords in the title of your post
2. Use your secondary keywords in the body of your post
3. Use your keywords in your anchor text of links in the body of your posts

If you follow those three steps above, you have a better chance of your posts being properly indexed by the search engines. This means more traffic for you.

My next tip, submit your blog to as many directories as possible. If you haven't done so, make sure your blog has a RSS feed. If you are using Wordpress, it will create a feed for you. If you don't know much about feeds, visit http://www.feedburner.com. You can submit your blog url and it will give you a RSS feed address to use. I use Feedburner with my blogs hosted on Blogger. When submitting your blog and RSS feed to directories, make sure you try to submit to the big directories like Technorati, Yahoo, DMOZ, MSN, etc. Here is a large list of blog directories you can submit to:
http://www.toprankresults.com/blog-submit-list.htm

My next tip, add a option to subscribe to your blog so your reader is updated by email when you make a new post. This is a great way to get readers to come back to your site. I use a service from FeedBlitz. You can signup for a free account at Feedblitz, then login to your account and grab some code to place into your blog template. In return, you are able to capture your subscribers names and email addresses. When you update your blog, all your readers will get an email letting them know. Don't pass up this way to bring traffic to you.

My next tip, create inbound links to your blog. You can do this easily by visiting other blogs and posting comments. You can trackback to other's blogs in your posts. If you have other blogs or websites, link to your blog within those. Basically, post your link to as many places as you can.

My last tip, ping ping ping. Make sure to ping your blog to as many as the services as you can. I use a free service at Pingomatic http://pingomatic.com/. At Pingomatic you can type your blog url, then select the service you want to ping. They have about 20 services you can select. This saves a ton of time because you can ping all the selected services at the same time.

How Can Pinging be Beneficial for Blogs

Well that’s fine because a lot of bloggers don’t quite understand pinging. In this newsletter, we will explain what pinging is, how it helps your blog, and what the best pinging services are. After you’ve read this newsletter, you’ll know exactly how to use pinging to make your blog popular.

What is pinging?
When a blog is pinged, it essentially tells a web blog tracking system that the blog has been updated. Thus, pinging is the process of telling tracking services that a site has been updated.
So how does pinging work? Well, a ping service scans regularly blogs for updates. Whenever there is a new update for a particular blog that is reported back to the pinging service’s site. You can almost think of ping services being just like search engine spiders—both scan sites looking for information, and both report that information back to their specific site. The difference is, a ping service only reports back new blog posts.

Why is pinging useful for my blog?
Pinging, in effect, tells people that there is a new blog posting available. Those who are loyal followers of your blog will see the ping and want to visit your blog. Those who haven’t read your blog before will see the ping and perhaps think “hey, there’s a new blog I haven’t been to before, I think I’ll check it out”. Pinging helps to increase your traffic because it tells people when your blog is updated. Those who visit sites with pinging services will see this information in the form of a scroll on the left or right side, or top of the page. The scroll is usually in XML format and typically includes the title and URL of your blog, as well as the date and time of the update.

OK, so now I know what pinging is. Who offers pinging?
The answer is, there are several pinging services available which you can use to have your blog pinged. We’ll go over some of them right now.

Weblogs.com
Weblogs.com is probably the most well-known pinging service. Weblogs.com monitors sites for updates and then pings whenever there is an update to report. Virtually every blog software is available to use Weblogs.

Yahoo’s Blo.gs
Another popular pinging service being offered by Yahoo has a built-in integration with movable type and other tools. One cool thing about this service is that it offers the ability to give out updates via Instant Messaging services like AOL and ICQ. It is a direct pinging service, so those who sign up for subscriptions to your blog will be sent an email anytime your blog is updated.

Blogrolling.com
Blogrolling allows its bloggers to manage their blogrolls (updates) through a web-based interface. Recently updated blogs are also highlighted on Blogrolling’s web site. Data is automatically retrieved from other sites like blogger.com and weblogs.com every 5 minutes. Often times your blog is already being pinged by Blogrolling, so you might not have to sign up for it. Search on the site first for your URL before signing it up.

Technorati
Available at http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping, Technorati is another service that pings blogs. It gets its data from a variety of places and is definitely a site you should go to for blog pinging.

These are just 4 of the many different blog pinging services available. A quick search on Yahoo or Google will reveal many other possible blog pinging services to use for your blog. It is best to sign up for as many as you possibly can to ensure that your blog is well-pinged. A well-pinged blog will definitely help your blog attract more visitors. So sign up for as many as possible and watch your blog traffic increase.

Pinging tells people when your blog is updated. It is an incredibly useful, and easy to sign up for service, so be sure to sign your blog up for pinging!

How to switch between 2 Torrent clients Without losing your downloaded Files!

Guide Version 1.3
This is just a manual way to switch.

Supported Torrent Clients:
1. BitComet
2. BitSpirit
3. uTorrent

Checking now on:
1. Azureus (haven't start due to not having Java)
2. BitLord (haven't download yet, lazy go googling)
3. Tuotu (I don't understand Chinese!)

As you see, TMNut had been throttling our P2P especially on torrent files.

But, sometimes, you need to switch between 2 Torrent client to test out connections without re-download all over again.
Which means you can have both client to use and having the same downloaded files.
Eg1. 55% downloaded from BitComet and you can get back 55% for BitSpirit without download all over again!
Eg2. 45% downloaded from Bit Spirit and you can get back 45% for BitComet without download all over again!

This is just an example:

Section 1: BitComet

Guide: BitComet to BitSpirit
1.1: BitComet
1. Start BitComet
2. Know which torrent that u want to shift. Example: DHS03E04
3. Go to C:\Program Files\BitComet\Torrents (default) to look for the torrent file name. Example: DHS03E04.torrent
4. Lets say you downloaded 25% of the file.

1.2: BitSpirit
1. Start BitSpirit
2. Click File>Open Torrent File
3. Link to the torrent files. Example: DH03E04.torrent
4. A window will come out. Just leave it as for yet.

1.3: Downloaded Files
1. Look for the downloaded files. EG: DH03E04.avi.bc! (BitComet unfinished Downloads)
2. Rename it as DH03E04.avi.bt!
3. Make sure your downloaded path for both clients is the same.
Example: you link your BitComet download files at C:\Program Files\BitComet\downloads
So, your BitSpirit download path also must be the same path! C:\Program Files\BitComet\downloads

1.4: Settings
1. Remember the windows that I ask you to leave it?
2. Click OK.
3. Stop the download.
4. click check download>check downloads.
5. after check you will see the part that you've downloaded using BitComet is still there. (you will see 25% for example for 1.1.4)
6. Start download.

1.5: Optimization
1. Then you can see that your download using BitComet is not wasted after all!
2. For optimization...
- I guess you should right click and select Edit Torrent
- Go to extensions and proxy.
- Change your User Agent to IE5
- This is just to prevent TMNut from blocking the connection.

What Can I Do to Stop Spam?

There are five simple stapes to stop spam, they are:

1. Do what you can to avoid having your email address out on the net.

There are products called “spam spiders” that search the Internet for email addresses to send email to (although some of you must have come across that), if you have not and your interested, do a search on “span spider” you may be shocked on what you will see.

Fortunately, there is a site which is an open source project geared to fight Internet "spambots" and "spam spiders", by giving them bogus HTML web pages, which contain bogus email addresses

A) Use form emails, which can hide addresses or also
B) Use addresses like sales@company.com instead of your full address to help battle the problem
C) There are programs that in encode your email address on web pages so that while spam spiders find it difficult or impossible to read your email address

2) Use a multiple email address approach, if you want subscribe to news letters

3) Get a spam blocking software:There are many programs out there for this. Whatever you do, get the software. It will save you time. The software is not foolproof, but they really do help. You usually have to do some manual set up to block certain types of email

4) Avoid accepting attachment from people you do not know. Because this is a common way to give room for spam and they can have viruses. Secondary, look for service that offer filtering.

5) Use email service that have “buck-email” basket (although most email service now have it). If what you use currently does not support this, think about moving to a new vender. The concept is simple. If you know someone, they can send you emails. If you don’t know them, put them in the bulk email pile until you choose to allowed then into your circle-inbox

How To Get Visitors Back to your Website

All websites ranging from social networks, e-commerce sites to small personal blogs all start from nothing. Even the most popular website on the internet today began with no registered users, visitors or members. They worked hard getting their site known and attracting those all important visitors. It is a challenge everyday to get just one person interested enough in your site to read through it and more importantly come back.

Countless websites become stale after a big launch mostly because the site’s owners become bored or discouraged by the lack of traffic. It is important to continually be making decisions about strategic planning and marketing efforts, even after your website is established.

You need to be asking yourself all the time, "How do I attract new members to my website?" It’s pretty easy. All it takes is for you to be an active member in the internet community through linking, being involved in social forums and focus on the task at hand. Once you get that going, your site will begin overflowing with visitors, members and dollars. Here are a few ways to help you get started building community trust.

  • Make your website easy to join and simple to navigate. Begin by only posting a few different blog posts or topics where the discussions can be focused. The last thing you want for your website is a wide range of topics all over the place. This makes your website appear to be sloppy and not very professional.
  • Be friendly with all new guests or members of your website. Members are the food which keep your site up and running. Check it everyday for new members and when they make their first post, greet them. You want them to enjoy their experience with your site and its community.
  • Content is king and great content is even better. You cannot have a website based on nothing interesting. Why would anyone want to come back to it? Write interesting content and gets the conversation flowing. If you don’t think you’re a good enough writer, then hire a ghostwriter to do it for you. There are a few sites out there that provide freelance writing services.
  • Make your presence felt. It’s your website. That means visitors should see new posts and topics from you. You need to have an active presence by making several posts a day and if not a day at least a few a week. If someone leaves you a comment, try to leave a reply back to that commenter and keep the conversation going. The idea is to always have fresh topics posted.
  • Encourage people to link to your website. Find other webmasters in communities similar to the theme of your website and ask them to link to you in one of their posts.
  • Don’t get discouraged. Nothing happens overnight, especially online. It often takes months if not years for websites to finally become noticed by visitors and search engines. That is why it is so important you never stop actively promoting your website and recruiting links and visitors.

Drive Traffic to your Site and Make Money Online

With the innumerable websites on the Internet, visitors won’t automatically look for your site, nor will they somehow find it easily among the clutter. Chances are that you will get zero visitors if you don’t drive traffic to your site. Zero visitors means zero chances to make money online. Driving traffic so may require some effort, as well as creativity and resourcefulness, but it pays off in more ways than one. Traffic is the key to your site’s growth. When you drive traffic to your website, you get more chances to make more money online.

It is fairly easy to make money online, especially if you have your own website. Having your own site gives you a lot of money-making opportunities. The Internet itself also offers a lot of tools and tips from other people on how to make money online. To drive traffic to your site, there are a lot of marketing tools available to you. It is better to use, not just one, but many of these tools to effectively drive traffic to your site. These tools range from website advertising tools, link and traffic exchanges, Search Engine Optimization, and article and directory submissions, among so many others. With all these tools, it is easy to make money online, as long as you know how to use them.

The most typical thing that a webmaster will do to make money online and drive traffic to his site is to advertise. The world of website advertising itself is a bit cluttered, but it is a good clutter, since it offers website owners more options how they can advertise their website effectively. The more effective a website’s advertising is, the more traffic it will generate, which equates to more chances to make money online.

Now that we have come to the discussion about search engines, another tool that has now become almost like an art is Search Engine Optimization. Website owners are now racing to get to the top of the Search Engine Results Pages or SERPs. The higher their search engine rankings are, the more visitors the websites will get. Naturally, more visitors also mean more chances to make money online.

Another tool that is gaining popularity nowadays is traffic exchange. Here’s how it works. As a website owner, you can sign up for the traffic exchange programs where you can earn credits by visiting other sites. The credits will be used by the program to drive other members to visit your website. All the sites in the program will then get increased traffic. This is also how link exchange works. The same concept applies. The only difference is that you can exchange links with other sites that complement yours. These links can drive traffic to your site through direct clicks or by improving your search engine ranking.

Article and directory submission are also effective ways to drive traffic to your site. You can submit articles with content relevant to your site. The articles will drive traffic to your site through a link at the end. Directory submissions are also very effective since the traffic that it drives is most likely targeted.

There are even more ways out there on how you can drive traffic to your website. These tools help, not only in driving traffic, but in maintaining traffic as well. So make sure you use these tools so you can make money online with your website.

How to Increase Traffic to Your Internet Business By Joseph Rose

There are a number of important facets to developing an internet business, but the traffic you generate is perhaps the most important. You could have the best website in the world, but you will have no business if no one knows about it. By producing original content and posting in forums, you can begin increasing your traffic volume greatly.

The first thing you can do to increase traffic to your internet marketing business is focus on the content you are producing. Two parts of your content will make your business worthy; how fresh and enticing it is and if it is worth your reader's time. All over the internet you will find content that is the same, just rephrased.

If you can give the readers something original, something they haven't seen before, you are guaranteed to increase your traffic volume. Not only will you generate more traffic with fresh content, but you will also increase the number of return visitors you have. This is because you will have given them something they haven't heard before and they will want to come back to see what else you have for them.

As far as producing content that is worth their time goes, there are hundreds of other websites that are offering similar content as yours. Therefore, you have to be clear and precise with your writing. There is no time to beat around the bush on the internet, you have to deliver right away and give your readers a benefit.

While the content you produce is crucial, there is much more to increasing traffic volume than that. One of the most effective ways to bring visitors to your internet business is by posting on blogs and forums. There are thousands of forums online and the more you post in the multitude of forums, the more people will become familiar with you and your website. Blogs and forums give you the chance to share your knowledge and find out what readers are looking for.

Article writing is another way to increase your traffic volume. As with forums, the more articles you write the more people will become familiar with you. After writing your articles, you can place a link in a forum post, place it on your website, or submit it to article directories.

There are many other ways you can increase your traffic volume including link exchanges, newsletters and emails. But focusing on your content and getting your name across the internet is a great way to bring visitors to your internet marketing business.

Easy money through blogging By Patrick Sia

There are a few ways to earn money through blogging. Some of these common methods used are through contextual ad program, affiliate program and selling their own digital assets.

Advertisement Space
There are two basic methods that you can go about recruiting sponsors who want to put ads on your site; either engaging someone to do all of the work or doing it yourself.

Within the first group, most of the people make money blogging by selling space through Google's AdSense program. It requires very little effort on the part of the blogger to earn profits. Another two popular ones with many is BlogAds. A more recent addition that many are using successfully are Chitika’s eMiniMalls and CrispAds, Text Link Ads.

Another approach is to sell advertising directly to companies who want to put banner ads or sponsored links on your blog. This can take quite a bit of time, but it is often fairly worthwhile.

If you have a lot of contacts in industries that are related to the topic of your blog, you may want to try out this approach. People who are experienced at pitching proposals can make quite a bit of money by renting blog space to interested companies.

The most fundamental challenges with this approach is that you often have to build a sizable readership before you can attract advertisers, which can mean it will take time before you start to make money blogging.

Get paid for blogging
Another method is to use pay per blog service. It is an incredible new self-service marketplace that allows you to get paid to blog about the products, services and websites you love.

With this service, advertisers are willing to pay you for your opinion on various topics.

Using of Affiliate Programs
Affiliate programs enable your blog to serve as a conduit between readers and online sites offering various goods and services. An affiliate program provides a means for your readers to click directly from your blog to Amazon to obtain further information about the book. If they break out the checkbook or charge card, you get paid as well. There are larger affiliate programs like Amazon, Linkshare, Clickbank and Commission Junction but also literally thousands of others from the large to the very small.

Selling Your Digital Assets
Blogs are an ideal venue to share your thoughts with others, but don't overlook their capacity to generate new business as well.

Increasing numbers of bloggers have been developing other digital assets to support and add revenue streams to their blogs. By this, I mean more and more e-books by bloggers, courses or tele-seminars run by bloggers being advertise in their blog. This create an additional ways to generate incomes.

Generate Traffic: How You Can Promote Your Website Using Free Methods By Connie McKenzie

You have created your website or have signed up as an affiliate and received a free website, now it is up to you to promote it and generate traffic to your business in order to make money.

Now you may be thinking that, in order to make money you are going to need money. Not true, for many of us, we just do not have the resources or money to generate traffic to our websites like some do.

Well, you don’t have to spend a penny; really all you need to do is to have the proper mindset and a lot of eagerness. As well, the perseverance and drive to work hard and do your research to generate traffic to your site.

How sweet it is to generate traffic to your website without having to spend a single penny. Now, I am not about to beat around the bush here, and I will tell you honestly that it may take a bit more time. When you pay for your advertisements you are going to get results faster. But at least you will have a fighting chance with some of the free methods I am about to tell you.

Write good content on your website Once your site is discovered and if the content is good quality content, people will return to read more or tell friends about it. Search engines will index it more frequently because humans are visiting often due to your great quality content.

Search engine optimization is also extremely important, but I am no expert when it comes to this topic. About the best advice I can give you about search engine optimization is that you will need to have the right keywords in order to get higher rankings in the search engines. But I can assure you that you can get plenty of free information about it if you type those keywords into your browser.

Enlist your website into the hottest Internet directories that are free. It is an easy and effective website promotion tactic. Start with this and the rest of the good things will follow.

Just don’t forget to spruce up your website so that you have a higher chance of getting accepted in your directory of choice.

Write articles You will want your articles to pique the attention of your target audience. Provide tips and guides of interest to them. The article must be related to what your website is about. That way, when they read your resource box, there will be a higher chance that they will click on your link so that they can get more information or buy your product.

Submit your article to article directories, many are free, and don’t stop at writing just a few articles because you are not getting any results. Keep it up, become known as the expert that you are in your field, and people will begin to trust you.

Exchanging links with other sites. All that is required of you is to reach an agreement with another webmaster to trade links. Ok, so it’s not all that simple, it takes time and persistence because some webmasters will not agree to link back to you, but it is possible and free.

As long as you link to the right sites, ones that are related to yours. You can attain a good ranking with the search engines.

Spend some time on online forums and online communities. You can locate forums that target your niche. You can answer and ask questions, wow them with your range of expertise about the subject. Build a good reputation for your company and build trust with the people in your expertise and knowledge.

Do not sell, but you can let them know about your site in your signature and attract instant visitors right away.

Each of these methods will generate more traffic to your website for free. It only takes a bit of effort and some additional man-hours. Educate yourself about the methods depicted here and you will soon generate traffic to your site without the usual costs that come with it.

You can find popular sites such as izune access and use them to get your content. They are just one source, there are many. Take the Wheel - Drive Customers to your Website by: Lori Quaranta

So you own a small business and you have made the decision to build a simple website to gain internet exposure. Or maybe you already have a website that no one visits? You can be the proud owner of the slickest website you have ever seen, but if you aren’t getting any traffic because it’s not properly optimized you have wasted a good chunk of change and a lot of your valuable time. Weather you are building a site from scratch or tweaking one that already exists, consider these web hosting and marketing tips to help drive traffic to your website:

For Web Hosting:

1) Start with keywords - Think about terms potential customers would use to find you in a search engine. What would you type in if you were looking for your business?

2) Use a keyword selector tool - Type your keywords into a keyword selector tool to see how many people have searched on the term in the last 30 days. Look for terms in the 2k-10k range that are relevant to your site.

3) Use domain names which match your keywords – My client advertises products that are geared toward leadership skills development. In addition to leadingonedge.com he also has leadership-skills.info and a handful of others.

4) Use keywords throughout your web pages - Put your keywords in the title, description, keywords, graphics, and written text.

5) Use a keyword density analyzer - Check your website against a keyword density analyzer to see how frequently a specific keyword is used. Shoot for 3-15% density.

6) Slick and sexy doesn't get you traffic - Don't waste your money on slick graphics or things that fly across your screen. Most visitors find them annoying and search engines don't care for them.

7) Use Google AdSense on your website - Whenever someone clicks on a Google ad in your website, you get revenue. And the ads are relevant to your content. My websites now pay for themselves with ad revenue alone.

8) Advertise Amazon books and products on your website - Set up an Amazon Associates account and put relevant books and products on your website. When someone buys a product you get referral revenue.

9) Consider using a website starter package - If going it on your own, think about using a website starter package which can have you up and running quickly. 10) Decide where you want to spend your time - In any business, time is money! Small business web hosting is very doable, but it does take time. Decide if you want to do it yourself or have a professional help you.

For Marketing:

1) Get an automated eCommerce system - These can be really good, very comprehensive and very inexpensive. The good ones can do everything from customer base management to product management to shopping cart to newsletter broadcasts.

2) Get a cheap and reliable merchant account provider - You can get merchant account providers that do both the merchant account and internet gateway for you.

3) Put a link back to your website in your email autosignature - This doesn't need to be obnoxious, just a simple link that email recipients can click on to reference your website.

4) Do selective link trading - Link trade, but make sure the content on the other websites is similar to your own. Don't touch "link farms" with a ten-foot pole; search engines hate them.

5) Write articles and include your website address – Every business owner has something to say that someone would love to read about! There are a number of article databases out there that are researched for website content. Find some article databases which house content similar to yours and write a few articles. You'd be amazed at where your articles show up!

6) Write newsletters - Allow for customers and visitors to subscribe to a newsletter to get regular visibility to you and your company. This is also a great way to compile a customer email data base for your business.

7) Consider using a search engine submission services - These services submit your site to multiple search engines & directories. This can be helpful particularly if your website is new.

8) Set up an affiliates program - Allow for others to promote your products on a commission basis. Again a good eCommerce system should already have this built in.

9) Download the Google Toolbar – I am a Google toolbar fanatic! The Google Toolbar has a nifty feature which shows you the page rank (0-10 scale) of every site you visit; the higher your page ranking the higher your placement in search engines.

10) Set up multiple websites - Got three services you perform? Set up three different websites with domain names that match your keywords. Super cheap to do and can be very effective.

Is Yahoo catching up on Google? By Anja Glauch

Indeed Yahoo! will propose ways to phrase a search as a user types into the query box and will produce more links to photos, music and videos on the main results page.

This new search tool will also pull information from Yahoo's calendar service:Upcoming.org to highlight local events to a search request .

Yahoo!'s idea when deciding to create this new "search assist " tool is partly based on a research showing that online consumers were suffering from "web search fatigue". The study by 'Harris interactive' reported that 99 % of adults online use a search engine to find information online but only 15% of them find what they looking for on their first search. They have to conduct a searche three or four times to find what they are looking for.

The manager of Yahoo! Search said that they make the changes to give the best answers to their consumers. This internet search fatigue damages yahoo's earning and profit and also has a dramatic effect on their market shares too. In August 2007, Yahoo market share represented 23% of U.S Search market compared to 56.5 % for Google. Two years ago, Yahoo market share(32 %) was only 3 points away from Google (35%).

The gap between the two search engines is going to be hard to fill but it is certainly worth trying!
